AICWA bans on film shoots, television shows digital content in Turkey
In a scathing response to Turkey’s continued diplomatic support for Pakistan amid escalating Indo-Pak tensions, India’s leading film workers’ unions have announced a complete boycott of all film and cultural collaborations with the country.
The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA), which represents a broad spectrum of professionals across the entertainment sector, has declared a blanket ban on film shoots, television shows, and digital content in Turkey. The association has also barred any form of collaboration with Turkish artists or production entities.
In a public statement, AICWA voiced that they always stood with the nation. Turkey’s open alignment with Pakistan, especially amidst times of terror and instability, cannot be overlooked. The Indian film industry will not support or engage with any nation that stands against India’s sovereignty.
The developments come at a time when anti-Turkey sentiment is gaining momentum in India.
The decision includes a blanket prohibition on all filming activity in Turkey by Indian production houses and cancellation or review of existing contracts involving Turkish talent or technical crew.
Furthermore, strict monitoring of compliance, with disciplinary action has been promised against those violating the directive
The association has positioned the move as an expression of national solidarity, stating that the industry’s priorities extend beyond cinema to national interest.
Echoing the stance, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE)—one of the largest film workers’ unions in the country—has issued a parallel appeal. In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), FWICE urged Indian producers to avoid Turkey as a filming location, citing the country’s growing diplomatic proximity to Islamabad as a potential security risk.
