Kashmir Ki Kali is 60s Shakti Samanta directorial romance film
Shakti Samanta directorial 1964 released film Kashmir Ki Kali was a super hit film that featured Shammi Kapoor and Sharmila Tagore in their romantic best. The film also featured Pran, Dhumal, Nazir Hussain and Anoop Kumar. The film’s highlight was the music composed by O.P. Nayyar and lyrics penned by S.H. Bihari.
The film turned out to be the sixth-highest-grossing film of the year. The film was remade in Telugu as Srungara Ramudu.
As a matter of pride, the film was shot in Kashmir. But had to be stalled for 21 days due to incessant heavy rains in Kashmir. After weather cleared, it didn’t rain for the next 25 days, and the entire Kashmir schedule was wrapped up.
Recommended by film’s lead Shammi Kapoor himself, originally duo Shankar–Jaikishan were to compose film’s music, however veteran composer OP Nayyar invited Samanta to listen to some tunes, which he liked.
Finally 12 were selected for the film, and the remainder were used in Sawan Ki Ghata (1966).
Mohammed Rafi rendered four solos for Shammi Kapoor and three duets with Asha Bhosle. There are total 9 songs in this film soundtrack, out of which 7 songs are picturised on the film and the rest 2 songs (both are solo songs by Asha Bhosle) are edited from the film.
Originally Shankar–Jaikishan were chosen to compose the music score for the film but when O. P. Nayyar made Shammi Kapoor to listen to some of his compositions he was immediately chosen as the music composer of the film. The soundtracks consists of 9 songs.
