Many may not be aware that Rekha was infatuated with Sajid Khan, adopted son of veteran filmmaker Mehboob Khan who made “Mother India” featuring Nargis Dutt.
Reliable sources reveal Rekha fell in love with Sajid on the sets of Umrao Jaan and used to keep staring at him for hours together.
Sajid made his film debut in Khan’s Mother India as Young Birju, a role that garnered him immense recognition. Later he jetted-off to London to complete his education, and emerged as highly-qualified following his graduation.
Rekha is acknowledged as one of the most evergreen actresses in the Indian film industry. With a career spanning over five decades, she has effortlessly adapted each role to deliver her best performances. Some of her most memorable films include Kalyug, Vijeta, Utsav, Umrao Jaan, Khoon Bhari Maang, Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi, Dharma and many blockbuster films.Besides work, Rekha also garnered spotlight in the past due to her romantic relationships.
Daughter of actress Pushpavalli, Rekha revealed in one of her interviews that she was never interested in acting, and only entered this profession to save her family from financial crisis. She believed after working for 10 years, she took acting as a profession quite seriously.
Rekha, who carved a niche for herself as an actress to reckon with herself faced several heartbreaks in the past.
Her name was linked with many Bollywood actors Navin Nischol, Kiran Kumar, Jeetendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Mehra, Sanjay Dutt and Akshay Kumar.
But, it was her whirlwind romance with Amitabh Bachchan that and emerged as one of the most talked about topics at that time around. Infact they painted the town red.
Sajid had first met Rekha amidst the shoot for Umrao Jaan. The duo collaborated in several Bollywood movies.
After Mother India, Sajid featured in several movies, some of which were in English. For a few years, Rekha and Sajid were in the limelight as a couple before breaking up.
According to reports, Sajid found new love and moved on, and Rekha too left things behind and went ahead.
In 2023, Sajid passed away at the age of 70 while battling cancer.
