Differing to twirling
speculations Tiger vs Pathaan has not been put in the back burner.
Even as fans were left surmising on the film’s future, recent updates confirm that the
much-anticipated trandition amid Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan and Salman Khan’s Tiger is still on the table.
However, Yash Raj Films plans for a major creative restructuring of its Spy Universe, with producer Aditya Chopra reportedly bringing in new voices to steer the next phase.
Reportedly, new filmmakers may shape future Spy Universe Stories. Aditya Chopra is actively looking to refresh the universe’s storytelling model by involving different directors and ideas that move away from the franchise’s existing formula.
A source reveals that Aditya Chopra believes the Spy Universe films are veering toward repetition and need a revitalized approach to storytelling and presentation. So he is now reevaluating its roadmap and making significant changes to future plans.
The aim is not to shelve existing marquee projects but to ensure upcoming films like Tiger vs Pathaan follow a new creative path.
The idea is to avoid formula fatigue by infusing fresh direction and innovative storytelling styles.
‘Pathaan 2’ in Progress, ‘War 2’ and ‘Alpha’ On Track
Currently, War 2 and Alpha remain on schedule for theatrical releases on August 14 and December 25, respectively.
Pathaan 2, featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, is also in active development. However, with the ongoing reshaping of the creative slate, the timelines for this film could shift slightly to accommodate new structural approaches.
Plans are afoot for YRF to introduce a new generation of spies. Actor Vicky Kaushal has been approached for a standalone spy film, although talks are still in the early stages.
In addition, the upcoming Alpha, featuring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, marks the first female-led entry in the franchise. Its performance at the box office will likely influence YRF’s future casting decisions as it explores more diverse lead characters and story arcs.
Following the underperformance by Tiger 3 at the box office in 2023, there’s no immediate plan for Tiger 4. However, the character is far from done. Aditya Chopra plans for a void before reintroducing Tiger in a more compelling narrative setting.
Albeit reworking the Spy Universe, YRF is also doubling down on other major projects. The Dhoom franchise is being rebooted, with Dhoom 4 featuring Ranbir Kapoor and directed by Ayan Mukerji. Filming is set to begin in April 2026.
Apart this, the studio is developing a new action film with Ali Abbas Zafar and several mid-budget ventures that will go into production in 2025.
