Public Prosecutor
After playing roles on the same wavelength
from modest backgrounds Rajkummar Rao will now the role as public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, a biopic produced by
Maddock Films. There are two major updates worth to note.
Instead of making a full-fledged biopic, the upcoming project will focus specifically on Nikam’s pivotal role in the high-profile trial after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, rather than chronicling his entire life or career.
The second big update is that, according to recent reports, Rajkummar Rao has been roped in to play Ujjwal Nikam, who spearheaded the prosecution against Ajmal Kasab, the sole surviving terrorist from the 26/11 attacks.
The production house had earlier approached Aamir Khan for the role, but,.due to his commitment to Sitaare Zameen Par, Aamir distanced from the project, paving way for Rajkummar Rao.
Avinash Arun Dhaware acclaimed for his directorial of both seasons of the Prime Video series Paatal Lok as well as films like Killa and Three of Us, directs the biopic. Sumit Roy writes the screenplay.
Inspired by true events and a real-life figure, the film is said to avoid the conventional biopic format. Instead, it will focus on one of the most significant legal battles in India’s recent history.
The film intends to showcase the intense courtroom drama and behind-the-scenes struggles involved in delivering justice after the 26/11 attacks.
Fans are elated to see Rajkummar Rao in a role that’s a stark departure from his usual small-town persona. With his upcoming film Maalik scheduled to release next month, they’re hopeful this shift will be a refreshing one.
