PM Modi launches centenary celebration of Sree Narayana Guru-Gandhi talks
PM Modi on Tuesday launched the centenary celebrations of the historic meeting amid Sree Narayana Guru and Mahatma Gandhi- two celebrated leaders who devoutly shaped India’s moral and spiritual consciousness.
The original dialogue, held on March 12, 1925, at the Sivagiri Mutt in Kerala, focused on critical issues such as poverty alleviation, social justice, the abolition of untouchability, religious conversions, and non-violence.
In the midst of his address to the gathering at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, PM Modi said, that today Today, these premises are witnessing the remembrance of a historic moment in India’s journey. A moment that not only influenced the direction of our freedom movement but also gave meaningful substance to the dream of an Independent India. The meeting between Sree Narayana Guru and Mahatma Gandhi, a hundred years ago, remains inspiring and relevant even today.
Adding that this meeting, which took place a century ago, continues to inspire our resolve for Viksit Bharat. On this historic occasion, he bows to Sree Narayana Guru and pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi.
Underlining the perpetual notability of the Guru’s philosophy, PM Modi noted, “The teachings of Sree Narayana Guru are a profound legacy for humanity. For those who dedicate themselves to the service of the nation and society, he serves as a guiding lighthouse.”
Many be versed of PM’s early years spent in poverty. That is why, whenever he takes decisions for the upliftment of the poor and the marginalised,he always recalls the wisdom of Guru Ji.
Precisely, hundred years ago, under colonial rule, people were often afraid to speak up against societal injustices.”
He further went on to add that “Sree Narayana Guru feared none, because he stood firmly for harmony, equality, truth, service, and brotherhood. His ideals embody the spirit of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas- ensuring that the last person in the queue becomes our top priority.
The event was organised by the
Sree Narayana Dharma Sanghom Trust to honour and revisit the visionary dialogue amid the Guru and the Mahatma — a meeting that persists to influence India’s journey toward equality, compassion, and unity.
Spiritual leaders and representatives from across the country participated in the centenary celebration.
