When Sunil Dutt crossed paths with Nargis amidst Mother India shoot
When Sunil turned 28, he crossed paths with the renowned actress Nargis while filming ‘Mother India’ in 1957.
A fire accident on set sparked a deep connection, leading to their marriage in 1958. They built a loving family with daughters Priya and Namrata and son Sanjay.
Following Nargis’s demise in 1981 due to cancer, Sunil Dutt struggled hard often expressing his heartbreak in interviews. Their story remains a poignant chapter in the history of Hindi Cinema.
Not long following the passing away of Nargis Sunil Dutt appeared on Tabassum’s show, visibly struggling with the passage of time as he remembered his wife. He expressed how losing a dear and near one, someone can make a person feel incapable of continuing to live, often wondering how others manage to move forward.
Yet, notwithstanding the pain, Sunil Dutt found himself still living and carrying on, sometimes recalling the song from ‘Mother India’ that held special meaning for him.
He subtly referenced the song “Duniya Mein Hum Aaye Hain Toh Jeena Padega,” which Nargis had famously performed in ‘Mother India’. The song’s message struck a chord with him, embodying the difficult reality that, regardless deep grief, one must find the strength to keep moving forward.
Sunil Dutt passed away in 2005 following a heartache at 74.
