Notedly Vidya Balan feels modern films lack traditional Indian story narration and lauds Shah Rukh Khan’s emotional connect in roles
The actress stresses on Shah Rukh Khan’s romantic image built beyond his iconic pose. She shared screen space with him ‘Heyy Babyy’ and the popular song ‘Deewangi Deewangi’ from ‘Om Shanti Om’. Talking about his romantic image, she said the audience fell in love with him through close-up shots, not just his famous arms-stretched pose.
Speaking to the media Vidya reflected on how the industry’s trend has transformed over the years, adding “maybe a lot of these filmmakers, probably they have studied abroad or watched too much international content. They are not assisting directors. She may sound like too much of a senior when she says this, but doesn’t think they know what industry’s kind of storytelling is! They are not familiar with it, so it is alienating. It doesn’t engross her.
While showcasing her her love for masala entertainers and further adding she is enjoying the masala films because it isn’t pretentious. A lot of these directors – they don’t even use close-ups. She finds that shocking. The only way to connect with your character is through a close-up. Give her close-ups! Let her look into the eye! That’s how the nation fell in love with Shah Rukh Khan for God’s sake! Imagine if he was only doing this (imitating arms-stretched wide pose), he won’t be as loved!”
Shah Rukh Khan, acknowledged for his evergreen romantic films like ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, and ‘Dil Toh Pagal Hai’, was last seen in Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘Dunki’ in 2023. He is set to return in ‘King’, which also stars his daughter, Suhana Khan, in a key role.
Meanwhile, Vidya Balan was last seen in the Diwali 2024 release ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’, a horror-comedy co-starring Kartik Aaryan, Madhuri Dixit, and Triptii Dimri. The film was a box office success.
