After emblazing London’s West End and following blockbuster run in Mumbai, the celebrated Carvaan Live’s Disco Dancer – The Musical, that made Mithun Chakraborth’s Jimmy act, famous ,
will set the stage ablaze at Dubai Opera on September 12 and 13.
The Saregama produced event, will be more than a musical – it’s a celebration of music, memories and the magic of Indian cinema on an international stage.
At its heart, Disco Dancer – The Musical tells the
rags-to-riches story of Jimmy, originally played by Mithun Chakraborty a street performer from the Bombay slums who dared to dream big.
Cut to Flashback, 1982- when Mithun made India shake a leg to his tunes as the ‘Disco Dancer’.
Following humiliation and pushed to leave the city with his mother, Jimmy rises like a phoenix from the ashes to emerge as a national sensation, a disco legend whose stardom gets threatened by enemies from his past.
The Musical is a story of grit, glory and the power of music to transform lives.
Re-evaluated for today’s audiences, this musical tribute to the 1982 cult classic is blended with high-octane choreography, vibrant costumes and a brand-new live score reinterpreted by
Music-duo Salim–Sulaiman. The show combines the soul of 80s Bollywood with the spectacle of global theatre.
From Jimmy to Yaad Aa Raha Hai, every song is a highlight. Be it grown up dancing to these tracks or are discovering them for the first time, the energy is irresistible.
Taking center stage are talents Arjun Tanwar as Jimmy and Pragati Nagpal as Kim, who instill unmatched energy and freshness to their roles. They are accompanied by Varun Tewari as Sam Oberoi, whose powerful performance rounds out the trio.
