LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka hits the headlines for his big move to rename his team LSG before IPL 2026.
His team will be known by a new name in the next season. There is also talk of change in the color of the jersey of this team.
Sanjiv Goenka goes for a change in his team Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owing to poor performance of the team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 and got eliminated in the first round itself. He clarifies that change the name of LSG will remain, but will change the name of Manchester Originals, a franchise of England’s The Hundred League.
According to Cricbuzz reports, in the year 2026, this team will play in this league under the name of Manchester Super Giants. Sanjiv Goenka, the owner of Lucknow Super Giants and Durban Super Giants, has bought 70 percent stake in Manchester Originals.
As per reports Sanjiv’s company RPSG Group has bought 70 percent stake in this team for Rs 935 crore in Manchester on Thursday, July 24. Now there is talk of transforming the color of the jersey of this team to blue instead of Black.
Many players play for Manchester Originals
Jos Buttler, who played for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025, plays for Manchester Originals in The Hundred League. Phil Salt, Heinrich Klaasen and James Anderson are also included in this team, while Sophie Ecclestone, Beth Mooney, Amelia Kerr and Deandra Dottin play for the women’s team. This team won the title of this league in the year 2022, while in the year 2023 this team was the runner-up. However, the women’s team has not yet made it to the playoffs of this league.

After buying Manchester Originals, Sanjiv Goenka said that ‘they respect Lancashire cricket and welcome Manchester Originals to their RPSG family – adding they will maintain a good relationship with the players and the supporting team.’
On the other hand, Manchester Originals chairman James Sheridan says that the partnership with RPSG Group means that they will take this team to great heights like LSG. He said that ‘we want to provide an experience to our cricket fans which has never been seen before in English cricket.’ However, according to reports, no official statement has come from Lancashire Cricket Club in this matter.
