Sholay nears 50th anniversary – Hema Malini says another Sholay not possible
In the lead-up to the 50th anniversary of Ramesh Sippy directorial “Sholay” on 15 August, actress and BJP MP Hema Malini dismisses the possibility of a remake of ‘Sholay’. The ‘Dream Girl’ actress also expresses that she couldn’t believe the film would be such a blockbuster hit.

Standing outside Parliament, she voiced that the film is unlikely to be remade. ‘Sholay’
The actor, who played Basanti in the film, says she feels great as the film clocks 50 years o its release.
That was a different time…It is difficult to make another ‘Sholay’ now.”
The Salim-Javed scripted ‘Sholay’ is regarded as a cult classic.
When first released It received negative critical reviews.
However, favourable word-of-mouth helped it to become a box office success. It is regarded as one of the most influential Indian films of all time.
Its iconic dialogues and songs remain etched in the memories of Indians. The song ‘Yeh Dosti Hum Nahi Todenge’ continues to be one of the most famous songs about friendship.
