No doubt, Patriotic songs touches one’s heart. Even as some get emotional by defining the sacrifice of soldier, some teach us the value of nation.

Afore the Independence Day 2025 here is a look at those music maestros who marked a space in our hearts with their soulful patriotic songs.

*Lata Mangeshkar: she had rendered songs from bhajans to
break-up anthems. Her “Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon” still haunts in our ears and touches our heart and makes us teary-eyed. Lata wasn’t just a singer, but, an emotion in Indian cinema.

*AR Rahman: When Rahman made his entry there was a transformation in music.
He clouded the lines amid East and West, prayer and pop. His voice in “Maa Tujhe Salaam” or “Khwaja Mere Khwaja” wasn’t just spiritual, it’s sonic patriotism.

*Shankar Mahadevan is the vocal fuel of modern Bollywood. He turns every song into a performance. He has brought incredible energy and emotion to patriotic music with songs like “Desh Ki Mitti” “India Waale” and others. 

*Sonu Nigam has given Indian music some of its most stirring patriotic gems like “Sandese Aate Hain”, “Maa Tujhe Salaam” (live versions) and “Mera Rang De Basanti Chola” in his powerful voice. Each of these songs carries an emotion that he elevates with his soulful singing, making them timeless.

*Udit Narayan, over the years, has given many timeless classics. His melodious voice adds charm to every song he renders.He collaborated with Lata Mangeshkar on patriotic number “Aisa Desh Hai Mera” and beautifully described Indian landscape.

*B Praak is acknowledged for his powerful and emotional voice, and one of his standout patriotic songs is “Teri Mitti”from the film Kesari. This song has emerged as an anthem of love and sacrifice for the motherland. 

*Arijit, though best known for romantic songs, his patriotic numbers stand out for the sincerity and purity he brings with his soulful voice. His vocals to Lehra Do from 83 or Ae Watan’s version is simply soul-stirring. 

*Sunidhi Chauhan: With her soulful to peppy and energetic numbers, Sunidhi adds energy to every song she renders. Her stint in “Ae Watan” from Raazi leaves us emotional and teaches us the value of owning our identity as proud Indians. 

*Late Mohd. Rafi: Rafi Saab was a Legendary singer having rendered thousands of songs of which many of them are patriotic tracks.
“Kar Chale Hum Fida”, “15 August Se Humeh Kyon Itni Preet Hai” are two of his most famous Desh Bhakti songs.

*Late Pankaj Udhas, in his illustrious singing career, has rendered many patriotic songs and ghazals in his illustrious career. Some of his most tracks include Zindagi Har Lamha and Chitti Aayi Hai among others. Chitthi Aayi Hai from Naam remains one of the most heartfelt patriotic melodies ever recorded.

While she has sung many numbers, her “Love My India from Pardes reminds every Indian to be proud of their country.
