Vivek Agnihotri turns “Voice of the Hindus”
Vivek Agnihotri is
better known as a real-life filmmaker..
As a filmmaker, Vivek Agnihotri is recognized for his directorial of films like The Kashmir Files in 2022, The Tashkent Files 2019, and The Bengal Files 2025. He refers himself as ‘voice of Hindus.
Over an interview recently, Vivek Agnihotri made it known that he makes films to heal those who have been hurt.
When asked about his latest film, he said, “It’s very important that he made the film, to make the younger generation aware and enlighten them. And also, the entire community gets to express a generational trauma.
Agnihotri recalled making ‘The Kashmir Files’ and the impact it had on those who felt represented. He went on to add that a
cknowledgement of the trauma is the first step towards healing – you can ask any psychiatrist. With this film, he is working as a psychiatrist for the entire Indian society. With The Kashmir Files’, ask any Kashmiri Pandit – they say ‘your film has started our healing’, which is true. He healed them. So yes, you can say I am the psychiatrist.
Agnihotri pointed out that people often stand up for various agendas, and cinema is a way of expressing what they feel strongly about. “People have been the voice of different communities. If somebody makes films for the LGBT community, he’s the voice of the LGBT community – nothing wrong in it. Many people have been making films on women’s issues and have handled them very delicately. So, yeah, in that way, you can say yes, I make films on Hindu history.”
He further explained his style of filmmaking and his idea behind becoming the voice of the Hindus. He cannot make films on Islamic or Christian history. He doesn’t understand them so well, so he is incompetent. It’s not that if he was competent, he wouldn’t make them.
Agnihotri added that he believes in telling stories that resonate with the audience – their ambitions and their pain. “I made a film on vaccines (‘The Vaccine War’), which is science. He says he isn’t a scientist, but he made a film on that because he studied research. They allowed him. So if somebody allows him, he can make a film on anything.”
If terrorists in Kashmir wants him to make a film on them, he is willing to make it provided he has access to them and he has more access to Hindu history than any other history. That’s why he makes it,” he concluded.
Agnihotri also spoke about the cancellation of the film’s trailer launch in Kolkata last week. He said his film ‘The Bengal Files’ represents those who are unaware of Bengal’s “untold history”. The film covers the events of the Great Calcutta Killings of 1946 – the Direct Action Day, and the Noakhali riots.
The film stars Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Darshan Kumar, Simrat Kaur, Namoshi Chakraborty, and Pallavi Joshi, among others. ‘The Bengal Files’ is slated to hit the screens on September 5.
