“The Bengal Files”

It’s sad that Vivek Agnihotri gets embroiled in controversy for his
real-life stories. And it’s equally sad that people don’t appreciate his attempts for exposing the truth.

It’s also bewildering that actors too are raising their fingers against him and distancing themselves from the project.
The first to backout is veteran Bengali actor Saswata Chatterjee, claiming he was misled into being part of the film. His decision created curiosity among audiences and raised questions on the film that he ventures into.

Soon after, actor Saurav Das also spoke against the makers. He alleged that several details were kept hidden from him and that he never received access to the full script. According to him, he was only told about his own role in the film.
Saurav plays Gopal Patha, a butcher remembered for saving thousands of lives during the riots. He clarified that he is not a supporter of Nazi ideology and wanted to make sure the public understood his position clearly.

The exits of both actors have led to speculation online. Some believe their decision is connected to the political climate in Bengal, where the state government reportedly disapproves of the film. Others think it may be a case of damage control, as the actors realised the larger implications of being associated with Vivek Agnihotri.

Despite these controversies, The Bengal Files is scheduled to release on September 5. The film’s fate now depends on how audiences respond once it finally reaches theatres.
