Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra’s comments on Union Home Minister Amit Shah have kicked-off a political row in West Bengal which has led to the Bharatiya Janta Party filing a police complaint against her. BJP officials hit back immediately and said that the comments made by her are “objectionable”.
Moitra disclosed to the mediapersons that Union Minister Amit Shah has thwarted to check infiltrators on the borders when the Border Security Force is handled by the Central government. She questioned that if PM says that infiltrators from other countries are landing in our country and taking away our land, then whose responsibility is it to protect the borders and stop infiltrators.
Referring to PM Modi’s Independence Day address, Moitra said, “Standing at the Red Fort, the PM himself said infiltrators are causing demographic changes. But even as he was saying this, his Home Minister was standing in the front row, smiling and clapping.”
Adding that if we don’t have anyone to protect our borders, if people from another country are entering every day, if our citizens complain that infiltrators are eyeing our mothers and sisters and snatching our lands, then the first thing you should do is cut Amit Shah’s head and put it on your table.
Her comments have sparked a political backlash with the BJP filing a complaint in Krishnanagar’s Kotwali police station. A local resident of the area has reportedly filed the complaint against Ms Moitra confirmed BJP officials.
Sandeep Majumdar, a spokesperson of the BJP who has filed the complaint, said that the comments made by Ms Moitra are anti-nationalist and anti-state and that is why he filed the complaint.
As per Rahul Sinha, former State President of the BJP the comments made by Moitra, the distasteful and objectionable remarks only reflect the mindset of the person and the TMC. We would like to know, is this official line of the TMC, if not they must tender an apology and initiate action against Moitra.
Sinha also accused that an elected MP speaking in this language against the Home Minister is unacceptable. He also said that the central government has made multiple requests to the West Bengal State government to give land for the border fencing work, but the State authorities have dragged their feet on the matter. “We are not able to fence many parts of the borders due to a lack of initiative of the State government.
According to Kunal Ghosh,TMC spokesperson and former Rajya Sabha MP Kunal Ghosh, through her comments, Moitra meant to say that Amit Shah’s name will go out of people’s hearts. “She did not mean that she would physically cut the head of Amit Shah, it was only an expression and at most a grammatical complex, there is no need to take it literally.
