Amidst addressing the India-Japan Joint Economic Forum in Tokyo, PM Modi said that from Metro to manufacturing, from semiconductors to start-ups, India-Japan partnership in every sector became symbol of mutual trust.
The Prime Minister is on a two-day visit amidst which he will hold summit talks with his Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba.
The two Prime Ministers will hold the much-delayed 15 th annual summit, and expected to upgrade the 2008 Declaration on Security Cooperation, including defence hardware purchases, launch an “Economic Security” initiative to build resilient supply chains in a number of areas such as critical minerals and Artificial Intelligence, and increase Japan’s investment targets to around $68 billion.

At the India-Japan Summit with Ishiba, the two sides will release a joint statement as well as the “2035 Vision Statement” for the future of the relationship to upgrade the 2025 Vision Statement announced by Modi and then Prime Minister Shinzo Abe a decade ago. The meeting on Friday August 29, 2025 marks 20 years since the first annual summit in 2005 when Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi met PM Manmohan Singh in Delhi.

At the India-Japan Joint Economic Forum, PM Modi says, “…In the last decade, India has made unprecedented progress in next-gen mobility and logistics infrastructure. “Our port capacities have doubled. With Japan’s cooperation, work is underway on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail project. But our journey doesn’t stop here -Japan’s excellence and India’s scale can create a perfect partnership…”
India is rapidly moving towards clean energy, and by 2047, we have set a target of 100 GW of nuclear power.
