Mumbai Police arrest 50-year old Noida based man in bomb threats case

A day following an anonymous person’s threat to blow up Mumbai with the use of human bombs, using over 400 kgs of RDX, the Mumbai Police Crime Branch swung into quick action by tracing the accused identified as
Ashwini Sureshkumar Supra in Noida. He was immediately arrested and brought to Mumbai. He was produced in a Mumbai court on Mumbai on Saturday, September 6, 2025.
As per Mumbai Police, Prima facie, it seems like a bunch of hoax messages sent with the intent of creating nuisance or mischief. Further investigation in the matter is underway.
A senior police officer revealed to police officials that they take each threat seriously. Amidst Ganesh Chaturthi festival, there is added alertness. The accused had sent messages from different numbers and they traced him to Noida in Uttar Pradesh. Their teams arrested him with the help of Gautam Buddha Nagar Police and have already seized the phones used for the crime.
The Mumbai Police further went on to add that on the background of Ganesh visarjan, they appeal to the citizens to not to believe in any kind of rumours and urge people to not to cause panic among the people.
Reportedly, the Mumbai Traffic Police WhatsApp helpline number had received threat messages on Thursday (September 4, 2025) afternoon at 2 p.m., claiming that Mumbai will be blown up. The messages had also used foul language against the Mumbai Police. The messages allegedly claimed that the city will be blown up by human bombs using RDX.
The Traffic Police parted with all the messages to the Mumbai Crime Branch, which, along with the Worli Police, and started probing over the matter. On Friday, a team of Mumbai Crime Branch for Noida to trace the accused. The investigation was led by DCP Raj Tilak Roshan, and guided by Additional CP Crime Branch Shailesh Balkawade, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Lakhmi Gautam, Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti.
Meanwhile, on the occasion of Ananta Chaturthi on Saturday (September 6, 2025), the Mumbai Police have beefed up security measures across the city. This year, the Mumbai Police are slated to use Artificial Intelligence along with drones and high quality technology for the law and order situation during Ganesh Visarjan.
Over 6500 Ganpatis of community mandals and over 1.5 lakh household Ganpatis will be immersed on Saturday (September 6, 2025).
The security measures include installation of CCTV cameras, public address systems, the deployment of lifeguards, and the barricading of 65 natural immersion spots and 205 artificial ponds. “Police deployment includes 10 additional commissioner-rank officers, 40 DCP-rank officers, 3000 inspector-rank officers and 15,000 constables. 14 companies of SRPF, four companies of Central Armed Police Forces, three teams of Riot Control Police, Quick Response Teams, have also been deployed.
For surveillance, there are 10,000 CCTV cameras across Mumbai. Keeping women safety in mind, women police, both in uniform and plain clothes, have been deployed on roads and at the immersion sites.
Joint Commissioner of Police Satyanarayan Chaudhary told reporters the use AI for crowd monitoring. Police Control Room number 112 is operational for citizens who might need help. They have issued two prohibitory orders -against photography of immersed idols and circulating them on social media and the use of drones in prohibited areas.
