Last in 2021 with 606 mm of rainfall
Amid a red alert sounded in the region, several pockets of Mumbai received over 100 mm of rainfall between Sunday and Monday morning.
Spurred by heavy showers throughout recent weeks, Mumbai has already recorded 606 mm of rainfall this month, making it the city’s wettest September since 2021.
Following torrential rain over the weekend, the showers are slated to recede gradually with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) sounding an orange alert in the city on Monday. IMD’S Colaba coastal observatory registered 101.2 mm of rainfall while the Santacruz observatory received 77.5 mm.
This year’s Southwest monsoon has been severe causing intense damage to lives and property particularly in North India where there were not only loss of lives but property too in the floods.
