Egypt Prez Abdel Fattah El-Sisi invites PM Modi for Gaza peace meet

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has sent an invite to PM Modi for the Trump
co-chaired  Gaza peace meet.
Although the Prime will not be making it to the meet in person, the Ministry of External Affairs confirms that Minister of State Kirti Vardhan Singh will represent India at the high-level summit to be held in Egypt.

The summit, co-chaired by US President Donald Trump and President
El-Sisi, will host leaders from over 20 countries, including UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Snchez, and French President Emmanuel Macron.

Focused on the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip, the summit seeks to enhance peace and stability efforts in the Middle East and usher in a new era of regional security. The meeting comes following recent ceasefire and partial troop withdrawal by Israel which allowed displaced Palestinian families to return to devastated areas.

However, the peace process faces significant hurdles. Palestinian militant group Hamas has announced it will boycott the official signing of the peace deal, citing disagreements with key elements of Trump’s plan, including disarmament demands. Hamas leaders have dismissed proposals to relocate Palestinians from Gaza as “absurd,” signalling ongoing complexities ahead.

Reportedly, the summit follows weeks of intense conflict triggered by Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, leading to heavy casualties on both sides. Israel has agreed to release 250 prisoners and 1,700 Gazans detained since the war began, in exchange for the release of 47 Israeli hostages held by Hamas.
A multinational task force, coordinated by the US military and likely involving Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and the UAE, will oversee security efforts. Despite international efforts, the future of peace remains uncertain as key players remain at odds over disarmament and political control in Gaza.
