Mahabharat’s Karan Pankaj Dheer passes away at 68

“Mahabharat’s Pankaj Dheer best remembered for his portrayal as “Karan” breathed his last on Wednes afternoon 15 October.
Reportedly, the actor was battling cancer for a long time.
The veteran actor’s close friend and CINTAA member, Amit Behl, confirmed the news to the media.
An official statement from the Cine & TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA) read:
“With profound grief and deep sorrow, we inform you of the passing of our Trust’s erstwhile Chairman and CINTAA’s former Hon. General Secretary, Shri Pankaj Dheer ji, on 15th October 2025. The cremation was held at 4:30 pm, at Vile Parle crematorium next to Pawan Hans.
Pankaj Dheer propelled to fame in the late 1980s for his memorable portrayal of Karna in the iconic TV series Mahabharat, a performance that made him a household name across India. His dignified and emotional take on the tragic warrior earned him immense respect and remains one of the most memorable interpretations of the character on screen.
He went on to take powerful roles in landmark TV shows like Chandrakanta, where he played King Shivdutt, the fantasy drama The Great Maratha, and the patriot saga Yug (as Ali Khan) on DD National.
He also featured in the courtroom drama series Kanoon produced by B.R. Chopra, highlighting his range across genres.
Over his decades-long career, Pankaj Dheer appeared in several popular films and television shows including Sanam Bewafa and Baadshah. He also turned director with the film My Father Godfather and founded the Abhinay Acting Academy.
He is survived by his wife, Anita Dheer, son, Nikitin Dheer, known for his roles in Chennai Express and Shershaah, and daughter-in-law, television actress Kratika Sengar.
