Maithili Thakur aligns with BJP, May vie for Bihar Polls
Celebrated folklore singer Maithili Thakur has aligned with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday15 October. As per sources she is expected to align in the coming assembly election from Alinagar in Darbhanga, one of the two districts that comprise Mithilanchal. The party is banking on her to draw in young voters.
When quizzed why she joined the BJP, Maithili Thakur revealed that NDTV, she is very much influenced by PM Modi and also much influenced by the Bihar NDA government.
Earlier the singer had told the media that she wants to embrace politics to serve the people of her region and to serve Bihar. She has have been doing this through her folk songs, and that is why she didn’t want to go abroad and she had told the media folks over an an exclusive that she wants to carry forward the culture of her region, and if politics gives her this opportunity, nothing would be more important to her. She doesn’t want to enter politics and do politics. But to serve region.
Earlier this month, Maithili and her father had met Bihar BJP
in-charge Vinod Tawde and Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai in New Delhi.
Sharing the pictures on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Tawde had addressed her as “Bihar’s daughter” and welcomed her back in the state.
The singer, acclaimed for her folklore in multiple languages, was honoured with the “Cultural Ambassador of The Year” award from PM Modi.
Her spiritual songs had captivated PM Modi, who, in a post in 2024 following the inauguration of the Ayodhya Ram temple, had showered praise on her.
Adding that the occasion of “Pran Pratishtha” in Ayodhya is reminding her family members across the country of every incident related to the life and ideals of Lord Shri Ram. One such emotional incident is related to Shabari. Maithili has put it in her melodious tunes,” his post had read.
