Kabhi Kabhie timeless song still touches heart of audience

When the former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni announced his retirement from the sport, it wasn’t just the visuals of his glorious cricketing journey that moved people, but the song playing in the background – Main Pal Do Pal Ka a timeless melody, holds a prime place in the hearts of music and poetry lovers. The iconic track was penned by the legendary Sahir Ludhianvi and composed by Khayyam. the song originally Yash Chopra’s 1976 classic drama featured Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor, Rakhee, Waheeda Rehman, Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh.

The story begins with Amit (Bachchan) and Pooja (Rakhee), two lovers torn apart by circumstances. Years later, fate brings their children together, trying to reunite their parents.
Kabhi Kabhie was a box-office success for many reasons, including that it reunited Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor after Deewar.

Every note of Main Pal Do Pal Ka Shayar Hoon captures the melancholy of a poet who knows that fame and memory fade with time.

Bachchan’s character, who is a struggling shayar, sings the song with quiet acceptance right in the beginning of the film.

The soulful track with moving lyrics focuses on life’s fleeting nature and the importance of living in the moment.

Interestingly, many believe Sahir Ludhianvi himself inspired the plot of the film and the song, which, in many ways, mirrors his own philosophy about art.

49 years since the song first came out and even in 2025, it stays relevant, reminding us that even the greatest stories, no matter how glorious, fade with time.
