When Dharmendra acquired “Zanjeer” script for ₹2500
Dharmendra acquired the script for film Zanjeer from writers Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar (initially just Salim Khan) ₹2,500 to ₹17,500 (reports vary on the exact amount paid). He intended to feature in the film and produce it, but ultimately withdrew owing to family dispute and a vow made to a relative.
He never used an “another word” for the film or its script; the film’s title remained Zanjeer. Later, the script was acquired by director Prakash Mehra, and the lead role finally went to Amitabh Bachchan, a decision that proved to be a turning point in Bachchan’s career and established his “Angry Young Man” persona.
The film turned out to be a blockbuster success at the box-office. After this, Amitabh Bachchan never looked back.
Prakash Mehra repeated him in his other films Muqaddar Ka Sikandar Laawaris
Khoon Pasina Hera Pheri Namak Halaal
Sharaabi and Jaadugar.
All the films were blockbusters.
