Veteran actress Kamini Kaushal passes away at 98

Yet another set back for Bollywood. After the recent passing away of Sulakshana Pandit and Zarine Khan now it’s Veteran actress Kamini Kaushal who breathed her last at 98 which marks the end of a gentler, foundational chapter of Hindi cinema, closing the curtain on an era shaped by pure storytelling, quiet emotion, and timeless screen presence.
Her death closes a chapter of film history that began long before modern Bollywood existed, back when stories were simpler, emotions carried the weight of the world, and actors didn’t just play characters, but they embodied eras.
Kamini Kaushal’s career wasn’t built on noise or spectacle but, on craft.
She made her debut in mid-1940s and quickly emerged as one of the most sought-after leading women of her time.
From 1946 to 1963, she carried films with a natural screen presence that felt both elegant and grounded.

Her performances in
Do Bhai Shaheed Nadiya Ke Paar Ziddi Shabnam Paras Namoona Arzoo, Jhanjar, Jhanjar Aabroo Bade Sarkar JailorBade Sarkar Night Club and Godaan are often cited as her finest work.
By the mid-60s, she shifted from lead roles to strong character parts, a move that revived her career rather than limiting it. Her powerful performance in Shaheed released in 1965 earned widespread praise, proving that longevity in cinema has nothing to do with age and everything to do with conviction.
