CNG non-availability impacts taxis and autos

Given that there is short supply of CNG it is feared if the short supply of continues the autos and taxis will be hit very badly.City’s roads could go empty.

As per Shashank Rao, the Union’s President the compressed natural gas (CNG) disruption in Mumbai is affecting the auto rickshaws and taxis in the city with only those able to ply who have some reserves. This could worsen and affect the people’s commute if the supply is not resumed at the earliest.
Adding that if the situation doesn’t improve in a couple of hours, almost all the autos and taxis will be off road by evening peak hours and the regular auto and taxi commuters will be put into gross inconvenience
As of now, only those auto taxis are plying who have some reserve

The non-availability of CNG is due to the damaged of Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL)’s supply line at City Gate Station (CGS) at Wadala
This has led to disruptions in the CNG supply over the weekend.

The line damaged on the morning of Sunday, November 16, after which the gas flow was also restored but to a limited extent which further affected the pressure of the gas supply.

There are around 30,000 kali-peeli taxis in Mumbai and about 2.80 lakh auto rickshaws in the city, according to Rao. The broader Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) has over 4.70 lakh auto rickshaws. However, the movement of these vehicles will halt if the supply is not restored.

On the other hand, the company said that the supply is going to take some time to be fully restored, with normal supply expected from Tuesday.
