Shankar Mahadevan forays into hospitality industry with ‘Malgudi’ South Indian restaurant

Music legend Shankar Mahadevan has taken his creativity beyond the stage by foraging into hospitality industry with the launch of Malgudi, a restaurant that blends nostalgia with authentic South Indian flavours in
Ajmera Manor, SV Road, Borivali West.
Inspired by R. K. Narayan’s well-known
fictional town, the restaurant hopes to offer warmth, authenticity, and comfort through its food and welcoming atmosphere, according to Curly Tales.
Curly Tales highlights some unique dishes at Malgudi, such as the Mulbagal Dosa, a recipe that’s nearly a hundred years old and not often found elsewhere. Other favorites include benne dosa, thatte idlis, and a drink called ‘Kappiccino’ which gives a modern twist to classic South Indian filter coffee.

On the opening day, Malgudi invited children from the non-profit Child Rights and You (CRY India) to enjoy a special meal and join in the celebration. Well-known guests like Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar also visited, sharing their appreciation for the food and lively atmosphere.
