on reasons for doing minimal South films

Recently, veteran actor Suniel Shetty opened up over the reasons for his minimal south films. This is regardless of his family originating from the region.

Amidst a conversation the actor went on to explain explained that performers from Hindi films often find themselves placed into rigid categories when approached for films from the South. According to him, this pattern has discouraged him from taking up many opportunities offered to him over the years.

As per Suniel, he actor he does receive offers from South filmmakers but a consistent pattern makes him hesitant. Most of the roles he is offered portray him as a forceful antagonist. He noted that Hindi film stars are frequently chosen to play intimidating or villainous characters, as producers feel this adds dramatic appeal for the audience. Shetty admitted that this tendency toward typecasting is something he strongly dislikes and therefore avoids.

Notwithstanding these reservations, Suniel had accepted a few projects in the past for personal or emotional reasons. He once collaborated with Rajinikanth simply to fulfill a long-held wish of working alongside the legendary star. He described the project as a milestone he wanted to achieve in his career. More recently, he appeared in a Tulu film to encourage cinema from Karnataka. The film, titled Jai, featured him briefly and went on to become one of the most widely screened Tulu films in recent times, earning over three crore rupees within its first five days of release.
He also emphasized that in the current era, language no longer restricts how films travel or connect with viewers. If a project resonates with strong storytelling, he believes it naturally overcomes linguistic boundaries and reaches audiences everywhere.

In 2025, Suniel was seen in the films
Kesari Veer and Nadaaniyan. He is now preparing for his appearances in two major franchise projects: Welcome to the Jungle and the much-anticipated Hera Pheri 3.
