The makers of ‘Border 2,’ set amidst the 1971 India-Pakistan war, are bringing back the soul of the iconic 1997 film. Akshaye Khanna, Suniel Shetty, and Sudesh Berry will appear in special roles, playing the same characters they portrayed in Border. Reportedly, Akshaye Khanna returns as Second Lieutenant Dharamvir Singh Bhakhri, Suniel Shetty as Assistant Commandant Bhairon Singh Rathore, and Sudesh Berry as Naib Subedar Mathura Das. All three characters were martyred in the original film.
In ‘Border 2,’ the characters from the original film will meet the new generation of soldiers at an event before the 1971 war begins. This scene connects the two films in a meaningful way.
According to reports, the makers felt this moment would add strong emotional value and remind viewers of the bravery shown in the first Border. The scene will also mark a special moment where Suniel Shetty and his son Ahan Shetty appear in the same film, though not as father and son on screen.
The sequence was planned to be shot earlier this year but was delayed due to date issues. Akshaye Khanna and Sudesh Berry filmed their portions in Mumbai in November. Suniel Shetty, who was busy with another project and a different look, shot his part using a green screen. The makers will use special effects to de-age all three actors so they match their original Border appearances.
‘Border 2’ is Anurag Singh’s directorial and features Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh, Varun Dhawan, and Ahan Shetty in lead roles. Recently, actor Arjun Rampal lauded the
film after watching its teaser. He wrote,
âLove the new energy these handsome and solid youngsters Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty are bringing; with the backing of the one and only Sunny Deol, itâs his guess that India is in good hands.âAdding âLook forward to seeing them in action under Anurag Singh’s direction.
