One of the foremost anticipated South Indian films, ‘Jana Nayagan’, hits theatres on January 9. The film is Vijay Thalapathy’s last film since he has distanced from acting to focus on politics.
In the midst of the escalating buzz, actor Jason Shah recalled his experience working on the film, particularly his time alongside Bobby Deol and being part of such a defining moment in Tamil cinema.
For Jason Shah, Jana Nayagan also marked his first collaboration with Bobby Deol—an experience that left an intense impression on him.
In a media interaction Shah opened up that regardless everything that was happening in his personal life, he never let it affect his professionalism. While he had just a couple of hours or days of shooting left, he showed up fully present, focused, committed, and dignified.”
Shah went a step further, reflecting on Bobby Deol’s inner strength. Adding there was no bitterness, no drama, no withdrawal. Doesn’t even think ‘professional’ is the right word—it was more than that. It reflected the kind of artist and human being he truly is. That steadiness in difficult moments isn’t taught in acting schools; it comes from character.
Shah’s role in Jana Nayagan came following a missed opportunity in 2024, making the second call feel almost destined. He hints at portraying a completely action-driven character, unlike anything he has done in his decade-long career in Indian cinema.
While he did not share screen space with Vijay, the superstar’s presence left a lasting impression on him. “He carries a very distinct aura. The way the crew spoke about him, the energy around his scenes, and the respect he commands on set were palpable. Shah shared that Vijay has a personality and mindset that are truly his own. There’s a quiet authority and discipline in the way his presence shapes the environment. He was really looking forward to interacting with him, and hopefully, that opportunity comes in the future.
