Hema Malini says Dharmendra.deserved Padma Vibhushan honour much earlier.
Legendary actress and BJP MP Hema Malini amid reacting to the Padma Vibhushan award posthumously conferred on the Indian cinema legend Dharmendra said the honour should have been done much earlier. He was wedded to the Industry for six-decades. Now that he has been posthumously honoured initself is Great Honour. “Better late than never”
Even as the legend’s loss continues to be felt by the film fraternity/industry and cinephiles- however, the Government of India has only now recognised his contribution to the arts.
Dharamji has done enough towards the industry and as an actor, and as a human being too, he has been such a wonderful person. He would always help people, and that was extraordinary in him.
I remember in mid seventies when was contributing to a weekly Newspaper and south based film magazine I had visited his residence on two-three occasions in the morning to interview him.on one occasion when i reached his residence he was leaving for a shoot. He told me to have breakfast and to meet him at the Mohan Studios. What I heard is that he never lets anyone visiting him to go ’empty stomach’. He was such a wonderful human being.
He deserves this Honour since he had been working since 1960 and has featured in meaty roles till his last breath. His last film was the Sriram Raghavan directorial Ikkis released last month. He is often credited for having the most number of hit films in the Hindi film industry.
