Singer Chinmayi reacts to Arijit’s exit from playback
Singer Chinmayi Sripaada has reacted to the celebrated singer Arijit Singh’s “Call Off” to playback.
As one of the industry’s most recognised voices, Singh’s decision marks a significant moment, prompting reflection from those who have worked alongside him. Sripaada recalled their early encounters and the consistency she observed in Singh’s demeanour throughout his rise to fame.
Sripaada first caught up with Arijit Singh when he recorded her for Pritam, before he rose to mainstream prominence. Taking to her X, she said that even following his success, especially after the release of
Tum Hi Ho, his attitude and approach to work remained unchanged.
After Singh emerged as highly sought after in Bollywood, Sripaada collaborated with him on multiple occasions. She observed that his conduct as a musician and colleague was marked by humility and professionalism.
Expressing her admiration, Sripaada called Singh as “one of her favourite musicians, singers, and over all, one of the finest, and she dare say, spiritually evolved human beings she has come across.
Sripaada further remarked that Singh seemed guided by an inner calling, writing, she always felt he is someone who worked and operated from a higher calling; whatever he has planned for himself as a musician would be nothing short of divine.
On January 27, Singh, aged 38, addressed his reasons for distancing from playback singing in a series of posts on his private X account. He wrote, “Hello, Happy New Year to all. He wants to thank one and all for giving him so much of love these years as listeners. He feels happy to announce that he isn’t not gonna be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. He is calling it off. It was a wonderful journey.
Explaining the reasons that prompted him to quit, he elaborated on X, that there is not one reason behind this, there are several reasons plus he has been trying to do since a long time. Finally, he has gathered the right courage. One of the reasons were simple, he gets bored pretty quick, that’s why he keeps changing arrangements of the same songs and perform them on stage. So here is the thing, he got bored.”
Singh indicated that boredom led to his big decision. He needs to do some other music to live. Another reason is he is excited to hear some singer come up and give him real motivation.
Fans have been expressing their shock and sadness ever since Arijit Singh announced that he was pulling the plug on playback singing.
