Actress Akansha Ranjan Kapoor, acknowledged for roles in Monica, O My Darling, Guilty and Gram Chikitsalay, makes a special appearance in Netflix’s upcoming legal drama “Ikka”, featuring Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna in the pivotal roles. The upcoming film is Siddharth P. Malhotra’s directorial with Dia Mirza and Tillotama Shome rounding out the cast.
Ikka traces to one celebrated, reputedly incorruptible lawyer compelled to defend a murder accused. The same individual whose career he had earlier helped dismantle. Adding that the brief is not just professionally humiliating but existentially dangerous: if he loses, he risks forfeiting everything he holds dear. The narrative revolves around legal dilemmas, power dynamics and personal upheavals.
Kapoor, who made her screen debut with Guilty and later appeared as Dr Gargi in Gram Chikitsalay, has built a short but varied body of work. Recalling on joining the cast of Ikka, she said, she was already shooting for another project when Siddharth P. Malhotra came and narrated the story to her and she was instantly hooked. She personally love thrillers; it’s a genre she genuinely enjoys watching. So being a part of something like this really excited her”
On her collaboration with Malhotra, who last helmed the period legal drama Maharaj releasedin 2024, she shared, Siddharth’s vision and the way he narrated the script made it even more exciting. He was extremely clear about the world he wanted to create, and that clarity really stayed with her. On top of that, having her name associated with such a powerful cast felt absolutely perfect; it’s the kind of opportunity one doesn’t overthink. The plot is under wraps right now, so can’t reveal much, but can say that while it’s a small role, it’s definitely central to the storyline. That made it even more exciting for her to be a part of the film.
She also awaits the streaming release of Gram Chikitsalay 2, which continues her character’s arc.
