Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha go in for Ra.OneSequel?

Veteran filmmaker Anubhav Sinha has once again sparked excitement among fans by expressing his strong desire to create a sequel to the 2011
sci-fi superhero film
Ra.One.

More than a decade following the original film, Sinha confirmed his keenness to revisit the superhero universe, noting that the mention of Ra.One has emerged as a “matter of joy and pride. The project depends on Shah Rukh Khan’s availability, with the director highlighting that mounting such a sequel would be a
“2-3 year marriage” or commitment. While Ra.One was a massive, pioneering project for Indian VFX, in 2025 Sinha revealed in 2025 that the film’s initial reception broke him emotionally, making this potential return a significant development.
About his current endeavors, Sinha is
in the spotlight for the release of his new film, “Assi” an investigative courtroom drama featuring Taapsee Pannu. This will hit the big sreensreleases on February 20, 2026.

“Assi” tackles critical social issues, focusing on the high number of daily reported rape cases in India.

Fans are eagerly awaiting to see if this renewed interest will lead to the official announcement of Ra.One 2.

But making Ra.One 2 will take 2-3 years, which is quite a long commitment. So first, he needs a little free time, and then will think about when in his life he would want to dedicate those three years, and whether Khan saab will be available at that time. Then will discuss it, because Shah Rukh is also busy doing one film after another.

Interestingly, last year when he turned 60, Shah Rukh Khan had echoed similar sentiments amidst a birthday fan meet. When asked about the sequel, he said, “If Anubhav ever decides to, because he’s the one who made it, and only he can make it again. Both worked really hard on it. And God willing, if the time ever feels right, they might do it again. Shah Rukh feels it’s easier now anyway.

Ra.One released in 2011,received significant criticism at the time and delivered moderate box office numbers. However, over the years, the film has carved out its own place in popular culture, largely due to its visual ambition, technical finesse and entertaining set pieces.

Both Anubhav Sinha and Shah Rukh Khan have hinted that today’s tech-savvy audience and advancements in technology make the time right for a return.
While the Ra.One sequel is in the “manifestation” phase rather than active production, the intent to revisit the universe is active.
