Amidst the evolving trend of sequels yet another 1999 cult comedy Haseena Maan Jayegi is getting a sequel, with reports confirming that Farhad Samji directorial “Haseena Maan Jayegi 2” is currently in the making.
Reportedly, producer Smita Thackeray is behind the sequel, with scripting presently underway.
It’s learned that the makers are looking to cast two top actors from the current generation to recreate the magic of the original.
“Haseena Maan Jayegi 2” aims to bring back 90s-style comedy amidst the current trend of action-heavy films. Although earlier reports mentioned bringing back Sanjay Dutt and Govinda, more recent updates indicate a fresh casting approach.
For the unversed the original Haseena Maan Jayegi (1968 released) was directed by Prakash Mehra. The film featured Shashi Kapoor, Babita, Ameeta, Yunus Parvez and Johnny Walker. The film’s music composed by Kalyanji Anandji, had songs which are quite memorable, with the melodious Rafi-Lata duet “Bekhudi Mein Sanam” being the most popular of them all. The film stood 9th in Box office collection for the year 1968. Shooting of the film started with the song
“O Dilbar Janiye” at the now defunct Roop Tara studio.
