Director Sanjay Gupta has confirmed the script for Kaabil 2 is finalized and “far deadlier” than the original, awaiting approval from Hrithik and Rakesh Roshan to proceed. The filmmaker is ready to initiate the sequel, described as a more intense, high-stakes revenge thriller, once the green light is given.
According to Sanjay Gupta in February 2026, the upcoming Kaabil 2 is ensured to be more intense, gritty, and high-octane thriller” than the original 2017 hit and was known for its emotional impact and Hrithik’s intense performance, setting high expectations for the follow-up.
Kaabil 2 is expected to be a, “bloody emotional” return of the character Rohan Bhatnagar.
Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta has emphasized that a sequel must be superior to its predecessor to justify its existence, stating that a follow-up should “rise above what came before”.
In a February 2026 interview regarding the sequel to his 2017 hit Kaabil, Gupta expressed his philosophy on continuing a story:
“When you make a sequel to a film, it has to be better than the first. Otherwise, why make it?”
He noted that if a sequel does not improve upon the original, it is not worth creating.
Meanwhile Sanjay Gupta is acknowledged for his work on gritty action dramas such as Shootout at Wadala and Kaabil.
