Shreya Ghoshal clarifies her stance on “Chikni Chameli”

As per ecent reports, singer Shreya Ghoshal clarified her stance on her 2012 hit song “Chikni Chameli,” from the film Agneepath featuring Katrina Kaif and distinguishing that though she feels uncomfortable with the impact of the song on young children, she doesn’t entirely disown it

Contrary to reports saying she was embarrassed by the song itself, she later clarified that she isn’t embarrassed as she owned that song… It’s her song and she owns it”.
She further went on to explain that her earlier comments about feeling awkward or “embarrassed” were in the context of seeing very young children
(5-6 years old) singing and grooving to the “provocative” or “borderline raunchy” lyrics sans understanding them.
Shreya further mentioned that while she enjoys the song and does not regret it, she has become more conscious about her song choices and the lyrics of her music.
She again clarified that she can’t disown “Chikni Chameli,” acknowledging it as part of her journey, but she has since declined similar offers. 
She noted that when children sing it in front of her, it makes her feel that the song “doesn’t suit” them.

But the song had too much objectification. It wasn’t even subtle — lines like ‘make me into chicken and eat me’ or ‘hold me like this.’ Just thinking about those words made her face turn red and couldn’t say them.

Shreya also went on to mention that ‘songs don’t come with certificates, children can hear everything’
Reflecting on Chikni Chameli, Shreya admitted that while the song brought her immense recognition and appreciation, it also led to introspection.
