Suresh Triveni opens up on directing Anil Kapoor in Subedaar:

Suresh Triveni describes directing Anil Kapoor in the action-drama “Subedaar” as a
“dream come true” and a “real pleasure,” terming it a “fanboy tribute” to the actor who shaped his own cinematic sensibilities.

As a former small-town boy from Ranchi who grew up loving 80s cinema, Triveni called directing his “matinee idol” as nothing short of a miracle.
He went on to share that Anil Kapoor agreed to do the film almost instantly after hearing a one-line idea, asking simply, When do we make it?
Triveni noted that Anil Kapoor prefers not to be reminded of his past, refusing to discuss his earlier work on set. Instead, he maintains a strict focus on the “today and tomorrow” of the character.
Regardless having a four-decade career, Anil brought immense dedication, maintaining a diary for the character that included details like hair/moustache growth, which allowed them to shoot the film in just over 40 days. The character of “Subedaar” Arjun Maurya was inspired by the actor’s iconic roles in the 80s, but reimagined as a grounded “man of the soil”.

Notably, Triveni had garnered praise for character-driven stories like “Tumhari Sulu” and “Jalsa”.

Meanwhile, “Subedaar” released in March 2026, is an action-thriller focusing on a retired army officer navigating civilian life.
