Delhi HC disposes of petition filed by Celina Jaitly

Celina Jaitly seeking to locate and assist her brother, Major (Retd) Vikrant Jaitly, who is detained in the UAE. The court noted that Vikrant, 45, did not wish to communicate with her or accept her legal support, choosing his wife to manage legal matters instead.

The petition was disposed off by
Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav after reports indicated Vikrant declined contact with Celina. Vikrant Jaitly has been in detention in the UAE since September 2024.
Reportedly the court noted that Indian authorities have provided consular access 9 times since his arrest.
Amidst consular interactions, Vikrant explicitly refused to communicate with his sister and declined her legal intervention. Celina expressed gratitude to the court and the Ministry of External Affairs for confirming his safety, stating she stands by him despite his refusal of help, and believes he may be acting to protect her.

The court directed the Union government to remain in touch with the detainee and ensure necessary legal assistance.
