Veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan has strongly defended Aditya Dhar’s blockbuster sequel, Dhurandhar 2, dismissing allegations that the film is “propaganda”. In a recent interview, he rejected the criticism surrounding the film’s political content and its portrayal of nationalistic themes.
Priyadarshan countered the criticism by stating, “There is nothing called propaganda. You are simply presenting something to the audience”.
He questioned the motives behind calling the film propaganda, asking, “When the entire country has accepted a film, why should a few opinions matter?”. He further remarked, “Those who watched the film are fools?”.
Priyadarshan argued that the film reflects realities and truths that the majority of India has accepted, saying “If a film has been accepted by the majority of India, that itself proves its worth”.
The veteran filmmaker, who mentored Aditya Dhar early in his career, expressed pride in his success, stating, “Seeing his student grow is the greatest joy”.
Reportedly Dhurandhar 2 faced criticism from certain sections of the media and commentators, including Dhruv Rathee, who described it as a “propaganda” film, as reported in.
Notwithstanding the controversy, the film is a huge commercial hit, having crossed ₹1,200 crore globally.
Priyadarshan lauded Aditya Dhar’s bold storytelling and conviction, comparing his dedication to that of other notable filmmakers, noting that he “learned on his own”.
