Three films made with the same title flopped, costing the makers a huge loss and tarnishing the superstar’s image.
Three films made with the same title were major flops, costing the makers a significant amount of money and tarnishing the superstar’s image.
Inarguably, some titles in the Hindi film industry have proven to be unpropitious.
Films based on these titles have always proved a debacle at the box-office.. To cite an example is the title Shahzada. This title has been unpropitious for three superstars – Rajesh Khanna, Dharmendra, and Kartik Aaryan’s. In the last 50 years all films proved a damp squib at the box office.
Not only the story and talent, but luck and timing are also crucial factors in whether a film is a hit or a flop. In Bollywood superstition is also prevalent and people even change the spelling of film titles and their own names.
The trend started with Rajesh Khanna
the first superstar of Hindi cinema. Every film he featured in became a superhit, drawing crowds to see him in theaters.
In 1972, director K. Shankar made a film called Shahzada, with Rajesh Khanna opposite Rakhi Sawant. Regardless the presence of a legend like Rajesh Khanna, the film bombed at the box office.
In the 1980s, the title was slightly changed to Shehzade. The film featured two superstars, Dharmendra and Shatrughan Sinha. It was directed by Raj N. Sippy. The makers had pinned high hopes for the film. Audiences didn’t like the story, and it flopped badly at the box office.
This title has also proved to be a bad omen for actor Kartik Aaryan, who has delivered blockbuster films. The film Shehzada was released in 2023 and flopped at the box office. Kartik Aaryan was also a co-producer of the film. The film’s failure dealt a blow to Kartik Aaryan’s career. The title Shehzada has proven to be a bad omen for Hindi cinema.
