Jaya Bachchan completes 60 years successful years in Hindi Cinema
It is a matter of immense pride that Jaya Bachchan hailed as the girl next door of Hindi films, completes 60 years of successful existence in Hindi Cinema.
She made her debut when she was 15-year-old in Satyajit Ray’s Mahanagar and those days around she was known as Jaya Bhaduri. She made her entry in Bollywood in the year 1970.
She came to be recognised as a natural actress – no over-the-top gestures or cliches.
In Satyajit Ray’s Mahanagar, released 60 years ago in 1963, she was a teenaged and outrageously charming Jaya Bhaduri .
To want to be a film star is a progressive desire to express in a middle-class upper caste Bengali Hindu home from half a century ago. Her performances in Hindi films like Guddi, Mili, Koshish, Abhimaan, Sholay and even Zanjeer (where she has a small role), remain beloved and retain an especially loyal set of fans nearly 50 years later.
