Aamir Khan’s much-anticipated
remake of the Spanish film ‘Campeones’ is seeing a change of gears as Ranbir Kapoor steps in after Salman Khan rejected it.

The project had originally peeved the interest of Aamir Khan, who had premeditated
to star in and produce the film directed by R S Prasanna. However, following the underwhelming response to his recent release ‘Laal Singh Chaddha,’ Aamir decided to take a step back from the acting role but remained attached as a producer.

According to reports, Aamir Khan was particularly keen on having Salman Khan headline the project.

Nevertheless, Salman Khan expressed his desire for a revised script that necessitated significant changes. As the wait for the revised script stretched on, he decided to move forward with other commitments, leaving Aamir in a bind.

‘Campeones’ remake appears to have found new life with Ranbir Kapoor emerging as the leading contender to fill in the role Aamir Khan was to play originally. Sources suggest that Ranbir Kapoor has been pitched the concept and is immensely impressed by the script.

With his passion for football and the film’s focus on an assistant basketball team coach assembling a team of disabled basketball players, the talented actor is reportedly eager to take on the challenge.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time that Ranbir Kapoor and Aamir Khan’s paths have crossed in the world of filmmaking. Previously , there have been rumours of the duo teaming up for a Rajkumar Hirani project, and Aamir even contemplated casting Ranbir as the lead in the highly-anticipated biopic on Gulshan Kumar. However, these projects failed to materialize.

Regarding the Campeones remake, insiders at Bollywood Hungama further revealed, “Salman Khan displayed an active interest in the subject, with one final narration remaining before the project was scheduled to kick off in June. Unfortunately, after the narration, Salman realized that the film would overlap with his other commitments, prompting him to gracefully withdraw from the RS Prasanna-directed sports drama.”

On the work front, Salman Khan is currently engrossed in multiple projects, including a collaboration with Dharma Productions, an action-packed Spy Universe film titled ‘Tiger Vs Pathaan,’ and an upcoming venture with director Sooraj Barjatya.

Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor is all set to surprise audiences with his upcoming film ‘Animal.’ In addition, rumours are rife about his potential involvement in Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious project, ‘Ramayana,’ in which he might portray the iconic character of Ram alongside Hrithik Roshan as Ravan.
