In a bid to ensure safety of its commuters, the Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Ltd (MMMOCL) has obtained an annual comprehensive insurance policy for all commuters using Metro lines 7 and 2A.

This decision to obtain the policy was made after conducting a detailed risk analysis and taking into account the likely hazards that passengers could face.

Moreover, its prime motive is to provide contentment to thousands of daily commuters and their families – financial assistance in case of any unforeseen incidents during their journey.

The insurance policy provides accidents cover, disability and death caused by any unforeseen circumstances that may occur while riding the metro lines of Andheri West (D N Nagar to Dahisar East and from Dahisar East to Gundavali).

The insurance coverage will be valid for all passengers, notwithstanding their age. It will come effect from the moment they enter the station premises till they exit the designated metro stations.

It will be applicable to all commuters, including those using regular tickets, monthly passes, and other travel cards.

Under the new scheme, Metro Line 2A and 7 passengers will benefit from an insurance policy worth up to INR 10 lakh covering accidental death, permanent disability, and hospitalisation expenses due to accidents or injuries sustained while using the metro services.

The policy provides up to INR 5 lakh compensation for mortality and up to INR 4 lakh for permanent and partial disability, depending on severity. It has maximum coverage of INR 1 lakh for hospitalisation and up to INR 10,000 for outpatient treatment.

The introduction of the insurance coverage for Metro Line 2A and 7 is part of the MMRDA’s ongoing efforts to enhance the overall commuting experience and promote the usage of public transportation in Mumbai.

Additionally, the MMRDA is also working closely with the insurance provider to streamline the claim settlement process, ensuring that commuters receive prompt and hassle-free assistance in the event of an incident.
