Mumbai kick-starts ‘Jewish Route’ to promote, preserve heritage of the community
In a bid to promote, preserve the community heritage, Israeli Consulate and the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation will launch curated tours as part of the ‘Jewish Route’, comprising a string of 26 Jewish heritage structures across various cities of Maharashtra such as Mumbai Pune and Alibaug.
Against the 26 structures, 12 sites are located in Mumbai and include synagogues, libraries, Jewish cemeteries as well as schools.
Notedly, Mumbaikars and Jews across the world prying to learn the city’s Jewish heritage structures are in for a delight.
On Wednesday morning, German minister for state for culture and media Claudia Roth and delegates of the consulate general of Israel inaugurated the ‘Jewish Route’ at Chabad House, Colaba, in an endeavour to promote and preserve Jewish heritage in Mumbai.
As per Kobbi Shoshani, Consul General of Israel to Midwest India, the project seeks to promote tourists from Israel to India as well as to preserve the heritage of the Jewish community.
