UPI Payment App proving dangerous with crime on the increase in Mumbai 3 arrested for duping restaurateur
The recent case traces to 3 young men who used the app to dupe Mumbai restaurants over making UPI payments after food purchases.
In the fraudulent activity, the restaurant manager also gets a message that payments have been made; police to write to Google to pull down this app from its play store.
The accused had downloaded an app from google play store and scanned the QR code using the app.
The Mumbai police have arrested the three young men for allegedly duping restaurants in the city by using an app to give an impression of having made UPI payments.
According to police officer, the restaurant manager also got a message that payments had been made.
Only later, on checking their accounts, they realised that messages about payments being made had come from a mobile number and not the bank. Even after repeated warnings to be careful of fraudsters active on online frauds, people don’t seem to realize and become victims.
