Review: Ekta Rhea Kapoor’s”Thank You For Coming”
The film is an unfeigned slap in the face of the countless movies based over the privileged boys and their putrid toys.
Film features Bhumi Pednekar in lead role with Shehnaaz Gill, Dolly Singh, Kusha Kapila, Shibani Bedi in pivotal roles.
‘Thank You For Coming’ appears to be a direct response to “Why Should Boys Have All The Fun”. Why shouldn’t girls?
This Ekta Kapoor-Rhea Kapoor outing is an unfeigned
slap in the face of the countless movies based over boys and their putrid toys. It highlights on its girls, and lets them be silly and giddy and themselves, and it works, almost all the way.
Bhumi Pednekar as Kanika Kapoor is one of those loser Dilli girls who’s always been on the outside, wistfully wanting more. She’s been called ‘kaandu’, ‘thandi’, and other such cruel monikers that only schoolkids can dish out without a care on how they may scar the designated victim. Her besties Dolly Singh Shibani Bedi are both sounding boards and agony aunts, as she goes through multiple relationships in search of the perfect one.
It would be doing injustice to the film to dub it a sex comedy, though there is sex. There’s the kind of welcome But female desire being addressed head on feels as essential and as crucial as anything else in the movies even more.
The writing is mostly panacea
and wraps itself around its protagonists. About the men, there are some who are secondary to the proceedings (Pradhuman Singh as the ernest suitor-in-waiting, and Sushant Digvikar as the Rahul-Anjali double-bill, and the best friend’s sweet plus-sized hubby) but they all perform fine.
Waste of money watching it in a PVR or Multiplex. Sorry Ektaa Rhea wrong film
