Amitabh Bachchan gifts his prized possession Prateeksha to daughter Shweta Nanda
In a rare gesture, Amitabh Bachchan has gifted his prized possession- iconic Prateeksha bungalow the actor’s first property in Mumbai where he lived with his parents to his daughter Shweta Nanda. The property documents are accessed by Zapkey.
Notedly, the property is located on two plots of sizes 890.47 sq m and 674 sq m in Juhu, Mumbai. A gift deed for the property was executed on November 8. A stamp duty of Rs 50.65 lakh was paid for the transaction, the gift deed documents showed.
Amitabh Bachchan has also rented his Andheri duplex flat to Kriti Sanon for Rs 10 lakh a month.
Both the plots are part of the Vithal Nagar Cooperative Housing Society Ltd.
The document shows that the donors are Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan and the donee is Shweta Nanda, the document showed.
Notedly Amitabh had once told a participant in the quiz-based reality show, ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ that the bungalow’s name was given by his father and that there is a mention of it in his father’s poem that says that ‘swagat sabke liye yahan par nehin kisike liye prateeksha” (all are welcome here but there is no wait for anyone). This was the actor’s first bungalow in Juhu and it is here that he had lived with his parents – mother Teji and father, poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan.
Earlier this year, Amitabh Bachchan had bought four units located on the 21st floor in a commercial complex in Andheri, Mumbai, for Rs 7.18 crore each. The stamp duty paid was
Rs 43.10 lakh. All four units come with three car parking slots each. These were bought on July 1, 2023.
The seller is Veer Savarkar Projects Private Ltd. Several Bollywood stars prefer to purchase commercial properties and rent them out instead of buying residential ones due to the better annual rental yield offered by the commercial real estate market.
A few years back, the Bollywood actor had bought a 5,184 sq ft property in Mumbai worth Rs 31 crore in Atlantis, a project by a Tier-2 builder, the Crystal Group. He had bought the property in December 2020 but registered it only in April 2021.
He paid a stamp duty of Rs 62 lakh, which is two percent of
Rs 31 crore, taking advantage of the Maharashtra government’s stamp duty waiver of two percent until March 31, 2021.
In 2022 he had sold a South Delhi property where his parents lived earlier, for Rs 23 crore. The house, named ‘Sopaan,’ is located in Gulmohar Park. The buyer was the CEO of Nezone group of companies, Avni Bader, who has known the Bachchan family for more than three decades.
Meanwhile, Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan have rented property to SBI for Rs 18.9 lakh per month.
