Reportedly, several posts on the internet bear witness to the fact that the country has to go a long way to make several public places, transport and other amenities accessible for differently-abled people.
One such case is of a 32-year old disability rights activist Virali Modi’s recent experience which stands as reminder of the lack of facilities.
Virali Modi, an activist as well as a motivational speaker, faced an harrowing situation on a Delhi-Mumbai IndiGo flight.
Ironically IndiGo Airlines have been making headlines for all the wrong reasons.
Notwithstanding her paralysis from the waist down since 2006 and reliance on a wheelchair, she was left forgotten by the cabin crew soon after landing.
The oversight led to her having to alert the cleaning staff for assistance to deplane. She had to wait for 40 minutes for an aisle wheelchair after all other passengers deplaned.
