Switzerland for 54th annual WEF meeting from Jan 15-19.
Maha CM Eknath Shinde with a ten-member team, including Industries Minister Uday Samant, has left for the 54th annual WEF meeting at Davos Switzerland from 15-19January.
Prior to his departure, Shinde asserted that the WEF will be a platform to display the state’s potential as the most preferred destination for global investments.
The CM added that the summit is a great opportunity for Maharashtra to brand itself at an international forum.
In the midst of his previous visit, for WEF in 2023, MoUs worth Rs 1,37,000 crore were signed. There was a 76 per cent conversion, and execution took place.
Notably, this time around, he hopes more MoUs will be signed and their execution will also be done on a large scale, adding that the investments will boost the industrial growth in cities and make deeper inroads into rural Maharashtra.
On Maharashtra emerging as the leader in foreign direct investment in 2022-23, Shinde stated that amidst the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, the state ranking in FDI slipped to third and fourth. Nevertheless, there has been a massive improvement following the government coming to power in June 2022.
He further added that In a short span of one-and-a-half years, the Government regained the number one position in FDI.
Meanwhile, he noted the Government’s focus is on holistic growth. From infrastructure to skilled development, adequate human resources, power, water and land availability are necessary for economic growth being investor-friendly government.
CM further went on to state that People are ready to come to Maharashtra as there is huge potential – infrastructure, connectivity, power, land and skilled manpower. The industry policy in Maharashtra is very flexible and investor-conducive.
Coming to WEF, it is an international non-governmental organization for public and private sector collaboration based in Cologny, Switzerland.
The annual meeting in Davos brings together some 3,000 paying members and selected participants, that includes investors, business leaders, political leaders, economists, celebrities and journalists, for up to five days to discuss global issues across 500 sessions.
