Heavy snowfall in North India

In the backdrop of heavy snowfall in North India, IMD predicts cooler days in the coming week in Mumbai. This is due to a sudden nip in the air.

After recording a maximum temperature higher than 35 degrees Celsius for nearly a week, Mumbai’s day was significantly cooler on Sunday with Indian Meteorology Department’s (IMD) Santacruze observatory recording 28.8 degrees Celsius.

Earlier on Friday (March 1), the day temperature had risen to 37.2 degrees Celsius. Later on Saturday, the day’s temperature stood at 30 degrees Celsius.

Sunday’s maximum temperature was also four degrees below normal, as per IMD data. The minimum temperature recorded in Mumbai was 24.4 degrees Celsius, four degrees above normal.

An IMD official quotes that
temperatures are dipping due to variable factors. Snowfall in the northern states has led to northerly component blowing above Mumbai, thus a dip in temperature.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, the Colaba observatory recorded a day temperature of 30.3 degree Celsius, one degree below normal, while the night temperature was 23.3 degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal.
